The Catholic University of Health and Allied Sciences (CUHAS), is a Privately owned University under the umbrella of Tanzanian Episcopal Conference Universities System. It was founded as the Bugando University College of Health and Allied Sciences in 2003 as a semi-autonomous, not-for-profit, self-governing constituent college of Saint Augustine University of Tanzania (SAUT) and became a fully-fledged University in 2011.

Located in the city of Mwanza, the second largest city in Tanzania, in the southern end of Lake Victoria, CUHAS works closely with its sister institution, the Bugando Medical Centre (BMC), to provide training, research and consultancy work to provide specialized tailor-made capacity building to fill the health sector demand of a workforce with a specialized skillset in various health programmes

The University is informally referred to as ‘’CUHAS-Bugando” or “Bugando University” due to its origins and affiliation with the Bugando Medical Centre (the University Teaching Hospital).

Currently, CUHAS runs 24 programmes with an enrolment of 3500 students by 2024/2025, training health professionals in the fields of Medicine, Pharmacy, Medical Laboratory Sciences, Nursing and Public Health through Diploma, Bachelor, Master and PhD programmes.
